function to control the bom quantity custom property setting
using solidworks 2008 sp4, i am trying to incorporate a function into one of my vb applications that sets the custom property to be used for the bom qty. drop down box, located within the custom properties dialog box. is there currently a function that can control the value of this and if so, what is the syntax to use it? i have searched through the api help within solidworks but i have found nothing for this particular function.

the bom qty field isn't a custom property link it is calculated you cannot change it. if you wish to have a qty field linked to a custom property you will have to add another field.

maybe i need to clarify, i have a custom property called "pneu_qty" that i only want used under certain circumstances instead of the normal "instance" quantity. i do not want to have to go manually into the custom properties of my part and select "pneu_qty" from the drop down list under bom qty. i would like to know if there is an api call to control this selection that i can incorporate into a vb application that i already have?
luke, are you sure about that? in 2008 there is a pulldown in the custom props form that allows you to pick a property for the quantity to be used in the bom (intended to be used for things like grease: 20 oz etc)

i am on 2008 and 2009 and i have options to select custom properties for all field except qty, for qty there is simply a configuration selection

it's at the part level, go to file>properties and look at the custom tab, in the upper left there is a pull down that you can use to select which property shows in the qty column on the bom

i'm working on a way to use a custom property in my boms by adding a custom property in the part file called bqty (short for bulk qty.) i then create different configurations for different qtys "10 oz", "20 oz" etc.
i added two columns to the bom. one is bqty and the other is qty without a period. in the qty column i have an excel formula "if'bqty'<>"";'bqty';'qty.')"
this way if there is anything in the bqty property it will use that if not it will use the regular qty. column.

hi dan,
i have already entered an equation similar to yours into the qty column and it works fine. my only problem is that the equation is not saved within the bom template using the save as.. command to save the template. once saved, if i re insert the template the equation in the qty column is gone.
i don't remember having any problem when i saved the template. sorry i can't help there.
