recommendation for masonry design book
just looking for a good masonry design book. i have some old stuff i've used, but i'd like to get more up-to-date.

try the masonry designer's guide, it has alot of good examples and includes code references.

motorcity, i checked this thread just to see if someone recommended the masonry designer's guide. my old professor is heavily involved in making that document. that being said, i hate that guide. generally, i find the examples too complex to be useful, at least for what i'm doing. how about a simple lintel design example? nah, but there's one with torsion.
engineered masonry design by glanville, hatzinikolas, and ben-omran is one of the better texts... although canadian code oriented, the theory is international...

i like amrhein's book (the name escapes me). good examples, and a lot of charts. that said, i still don't have one. go figure.
sometimes you'll want to try the search feature of the site.
amrhein's book is very good but it will not be updated again and does use the ibc or aci 530. it is called reinforced masonry design published by the masonry institute of american.
the other good text is design of reinforced masonry structures by narendra talvy by mcgraw hill.

i like amrhein's book also. agree that it's outdated code-wise, but so far i can still determine a design philosophy and go to the aci 530 to complete the design. thanks to all for the other design references. i will check those out.
i'm new in masonry design and i've been unsing both:
1- masonry designer guide
2- reinfocing masonry engineering handbook
but i found the second one is more practical to use.
