this is also an important issue for me. we would like to be able to maintiain 2 different code paths within the same application, to support both oda and dwgdirect.
i have created a ddl to use dwgdirect with opendwg .... and it work fine

i use visal c++ with windows , i have created a dll to open 2004 dwg and save it in a 2002 format, and after i can use it with open dwg and my old application ... i don't know if its possible to do that with dynamic library with unix (*.so) ... but with windows it work fine ...
