move part to origin
we often receive parts from customers which are not drawn at the origin.is it possible to move the part so that the center of the part is at the origin by using a macro.

it depends on how exactly you would like it to work. a low tech solution would be to use the move/copy body function combined with options to select a vertex, planes etc to place and orient the model in relation to the origin. in this way the model features are not changed - you just move the finished body in space.

currently, i find the center of the part by drawing a box around it that is tangent to four sides.i then measure the distance from the center to the origin and use the move/copy body fonction. i was hoping to find an easier method.

what type of shape do these models have? is it simple geometric shapes or is it advanced curved shapes? is the rule that you want to move the geometry so that the mass midpoint of the model is coincident with the origin? or what is the rule(s).

we design dies for the aluminium extrusion industry.the shapes range from simple to complex.the dies are designed to suit existing support tooling. the rule is that the center of the shape from the front face has to be coincident to the origin.
