rubble foundation
have a project where the architect wants to remodel facade of building with 4" blocks. problem is the foundation wall consists of 3 different materials... stone, brick and concrete block. in addition the brick slopes at the base approximately 15 degrees. anybody have any suggestions? height of the block is approximately 9 feet.

the existing is battered stone? and he wants to replace the battered stone into battered brick instead?
no, the stone is currently parged. he wants to attach a lintel to support the block which will be the new facade over the existing.
use very long thru bolts with epoxy? be very conservative maybe with the # maybe? or create a new foundation (hopefully your frost depth isnt very deep) and rest the facade on the new foundation.
thought about the foundation but i would need approximately 4 feet deep and would need to remove existing sidewalk. the wall would probably be encroaching within the city's right of way which again would be a problem. i was actually thinking about installing hss columns along the inside face and extending hss stubs through the wall and welding my angle; again pretty expensive.
when adding a new facade of a heavy material such as block, normal practice is to remove the existing facade first. only if you are using a lightweight facade material such as aluminium panels should you consider leaving the existing heavy facade in place. and the architect should know better.
