re-levelling a building
i am working with a client who has experienced settlements of their building of up to 8"-12". as such, we will be looking to re-level the building by jacking the settled corner back to its original position. the small, wood framed hotel, generates revenue in the summer, during which time the jacking work would be occurring. would the hotel need to be closed as the building is being leveled?
work such as this can generate a lot of noise which can be troublesome to weary travelers. big problem for the reputation here.
won't the "homeowner's" insurance as it were pick up the cost of the repair in addition to any downtime?
has the revenue declined due to the settlement? if it has, then what does the time matter? if it has not, why not do the work in september, after the major tourist season?
another thought, with the higher gas prices, will business decrease anyway? will it pencil out in the future as a hotel?

if there are water, natural gas or other utilities entering the building through the foundation, i think you have no choice but to disconnect these pipes to lift a building 8-12". leave the means and methods of executing the work to the contractor and let him make the call on this.

i agree - i would be very wary of keeping this "open" during this phase. too many things can and often do go wrong. and the noise and dust will not be nice.
construction workers generally start at 7, would you be happy being woken at 7 on your holiday?
that said, if all noisy work was done between 10 and 4 then it may be feasible only to vacate the adjacent rooms.
it is important to note in correspondence that this is not your call.
