i have a question about drawings.
i work for a "job shop" where we fabricate steel for different types of jobs, including things from basic handrails to additions to buildings. is there a written law that all drawings "have" to have work point dimensions?? the drawings i make for the shop are accomidating for our workers. the reason i ask is that i have had 3 sets of prints from two different jobs rejected because i didnt use wp dim. our fabricators dont use wp dim., they want me to use pitch and rise to put clips on beams that are on a pitch. my dimensions were correct, i just didnt have the wp dim.
i think that sounds like an internal policy issue. i would simply visit with your supervisors and discuss the why's and what's of their reasonings and go with the flow. doesn't sound like a huge issue.

the sd's not only give the pertinent information to the shop for fabrication, but they are submitted for approval to verify that the fabricator has interpreted correctly the contract documents.
from my perspective point as designer and sd reviewer, i can tell you that the first thing i check is the center-to-center and wp's dimensions; followed by the size of the
thanks jae and dlew for the responses, the owner of the company said that my drawings were fine for what we need, the post i made originally was out of frustration, since i've only been out of college for couple of months now. i figured out a way to take care of both issues, i just created new layers called "detail dim" and "wp dim" and just freeze the layer i dont need at the moment. it's a little extra work but after thinking about over the weekend, i had to admit i learned a little more about the industry :+)

btw, i believe the reason that it got to me is, is the fact that im the lead detailer and have 1 other person that helps me, and he is still in his next to last semmester in college himself :+)so we are pretty much on our own with learning the ropes. i am so glad that i found this forum :+)
