engineering titleblocks
our company is migrating to an iso drafting standard for our mechanical engineering content. i was looking for information concerning titleblock sizes. we will be using a0, a1 and a2.
my question: can an a0 or a1 sheet have multiple frames? i would like to think that we can make these sheets in a long format. they would hav the same vertical size, but, the lengths will vary. example. i have an a0 which is 841mm high and 1189 long. is it possible to have an a0 which would be 841mm tall and 2378mm long? is there any documents which provide direction with this issue?
the iso a# paper sizes are fixed. bs 308 which dealt with engineering drawing is now obsolete. it has been replaced with bs 8888, which refers to a whole load of iso standards. the one you need for drawing borders is
bs en iso 5457: 1999.
the iso a# drawings can have the "long" formats. it was used since i remember while working in a "metric" country.
i also checked the current local standard in that country( sorry, no iso number, but they say that the formats are iso formats).
so: if you need longer format then - say a1 (594x841), you take the a2 format (420x594), rotate it 90 degrees and now you can multiply the shorter side of it by whole numbers. this way you'll get the 594x841, 594x1261, 594x1680....
they call these formats a2x2, a2x3, a2x4...
if you need long a0, you'll use a1 and rotate it, multiply the 594 *2, *3, etc.
