confusion about lineweights
confusion about lineweights
hello,
i've run into a confusing situation regarding line weights for polylines.
as i iterate through the entities in the model space, i process the polylines, and i need to get the line weight for each one. first i call oddbentity::lineweight(), which returns oddb::klnwtbylayer. to get the layer's line weight, i do the following:
code:
oddbobjectid id = pentity->layerid();
if (id.isvalid())
{
oddblayertablerecordptr player = id.safeopenobject();
dblineweight = player->lineweight();
}
player->lineweight() returns oddb::klnwtbylwdefault. the value of the celweight system variable is -1 (by layer). this is circular logic, where the layer says to use the default, but the default is to use the layer.
when i view the file in autocad or in the dwgdirect sample program, i can see that there are different line widths, so i assume that i am doing something wrong, but i don't know what it might be. is there another way to get the "by layer" or default line width?
any help will be greatly appreciated.
thanks,
bob
celweight is lineweight used by default while creating a new entity.
for oddb::klnwtbylwdefault you should use value stored in lwdefault variable. this variable is not stored in drawing. in autocad it's stored in registry. in dd - in hostappservises:
oddbhostappservices::getlwdefault().

thank you, sergey.
i am still confused about how autocad handles line widths -- perhaps you can help.
when i look at the file in autocad 2004, i can see that some of the lines are wider than others, but when i look at the properties of the lines, they all say "by layer" for the line width. when i look at the layer definitions, all of the line widths are "default." i can't find the information that makes some of the lines appear wider than others -- they all seem to have the same definition (line width, line width scale, etc. are all the same.)
when i write a .dwg file, however, all of the lines have the same width, which is the value from getlwdefault().
is there some other information that controls the display of lines? maybe in a viewport or something like that?
cheers,
bob
are you sure you are not mixing lineweight and linewidth?
lineweight is a common entity property. it defines the printed line width on the paper.
oddbpolyline and oddb2dpolyline entities have linewidth property which is measured in model coordinates. even each polyline segment can have individual start and end width.

sergey,
thanks. that is exactly what i was doing.
cheers,
bob
