structural copper?
hello everyone,
i am curious if there is a grade of copper out there which is tig weldedable and also has a good strength to weight ratio. i have never dealt with this material before so my knowledge base has really started at zero, the one grade i did find was c-122 but i dont believe it can be hardend after we put bends into it.
any info is greatly appreciated
thanks
copper is very soft unless it is work-hardened. it cannot be heat treated except to anneal. welding will anneal copper. bending will cause some harndening.
try monel, nickel copper alloy.
go to copper.org. they will bury you in information.

copper is notorious for not being weldable conventionally (tig, smaw, mig): it is, in fact, frequently used as a removeable backing plate so two adjacent parts can be welded without the copper melting into the joint.
brazing is the classic how-to-join-two-pieces-of-copper-together problem. (brazing will be considerably stronger than soldering - the low end solution.)
best, as above, to contact the copper specialists.
