raising a garage roof (need help)
i want to know if anyone knows the best way to raise a garage roof. is there any sites that i can go to that would help me find out how to do it. i have 2 car garage and i want to raise the roof about a 2 feet. thanks...
supposing you are speaking about raising the existing roof in place (not rebuilding a new one) this is an operation that might be quite simple for an experienced worker or almost impossible (without destroying the roof or part of the walls) depending on the type and status of the structure.
you should better specify this, but guess it will be impossible to give good advice without looking at the real thing: the best advice is to consult a local construction company.

depending on how your garage is put together it is often easier to disconnect from the foundation and jack up the entire structure. you then either build a new poney wall under it or pour a higher perimeter wall foundation. either way it is a lot of work and tricky but can be easier than disconnecting and trying to raise all the roof trusses or framing. you usually can't remove the roof from the sidewalls without taking off the siding.
you will want someone who understands how the loads are transferred to the foundation to look at it before you act (i.e. structural engineer) or it may fall down in the next big wind storm. i assume you are wanting to raise the roof so you can put on taller doors and put an rv inside. good luck and i hope the rv is worth the trouble.
