masonry wall attachmen
masonry wall attachment
i have a masonry wall (8") that is not being used to resist lateral forces. i would like to attach this wall to a steel frame, which will provide support for the wall when considering wind and seismic loads. the connection must be able to move vertically (so no axial load is induced into the wall) and horizontally (so no lateral forces are transferred into the wall).
the standard detail that has been used at my company is attached below. dur-o-wall makes a version of this connector however, they do not provide any engineering data on this connection. i have seen other engineers use similar details but i do not know how they justify them.
i am wondering if this is the same detail that other people use... or if there is a better way of making this type of attachment?
attached are illustrations of 2 different types that we have used:
do you know of any manufacturers that provide test data for these types of anchors? or is this something that is sized based off of "engineering judgement?
i believe they all have test data. i suggest contacting heckmann products or hohmann & bernard.
