looking for old steel channel properties - please help
i'm trying to find an old book or publication that would have old steel channel properties. i have found a few books/publications that have old steel shape properties, but they typically only have wide flange shapes.
the particular section i'm trying to find is a c8x4.7. this shape is spec'd on a set of plans from '79. the shape is not present in the 6th or 8th ed's of the aisc steel manuals, but i do not have the 7th edition to check.
if anyone has access to an old database of channels or if you could point me to the right place i would be extremely grateful.
thanks,
steve
based on the weight of the channel you gave, it is probably not a rolled channel. first check that there is no mistake on the drawing. it is probably a light gage 'c'. most often these vary from supplier to supplier. if this is the case, you need more information from the designer. he need to either supply the mane of the company whose catalog he's using or the properties he assumed.
are you sure it's a steel channel?
the weight sounds like an aluminum channel to me. there is an aluminum association standard channel as follows:
8" depth, 3.5" x 0.38" flange, 0.21" web, 4.72 plf.
alloy 6061-t6
