默认 horizontal capacities in battered piles

horizontal capacities in battered piles
i have been approached by a contractor to determine an alternate to a foundation proposed by another engineer. the alternate that he requests consists of using battered driven hp piles to resist horizontal forces. i do not have sufficient geotechnical information to provide the lateral capacity of the battered pile due to horizontal loads applied to the pile. i do have skin friction information, but would like to also count on the pile tip/bearing to provide some lateral resistance. if i know the batter and i know i am bearing on partially weathered rock, is there some ball park that i can use from the pile tip/bearing resistance?
thanks!
check out our whitepaper library.
it is not usual practice to calculate lateral capacity for battered piles, it is normally designed based on the horizontal component of the axial load.
if there was a reasonable amount of lateral capacity available then i imagine the original engineer would have used it rather than batter the piles.
horizontal component of the axial load applied to the pile.
