默认 high ceiling room

high ceiling room
an architect design a 40'x25' extension with a living room 14' (40' direction) x17' (25' direction) at a corner of the building for a friend of mine. my friend would like to raise ceiling to 10' instead of 8'in ordinal design only for his living room. architect told him that just raising ceiling joists will be ok. however, i have little bit worry about outward movement on the top of wall. i cannot find any reference book which gives similar analysis for this kind of structure. the proposed roof rafters are 2x8@16 and ceiling joists are 2x10@16. can anyone give me some advices as to how to analyze the structure or where i can find any references? thank you
check out our whitepaper library.
probably not a problem ---- unless you are using a sloped ceiling rafter..
you or architect need to get a structural engineer specializing in that type of constrcution to look at it.
make sure you check your studs for combined axial and lateral loading (0.75wl+dl+0.75sl per ibc). also, obviously, make sure your studs run 10' and not 8' with an small 2' wall built on top (creates a hinge). if you have no clue what this means, please use mike's and hire a consultant who does this everyday. your problem sounds very common.
