determining wind loads on gambrel bldgs
would it be acceptable to determine wind loads on gambrel roof building that is comprised of a 14/12 and a 3/12 pitch such that the 14/12 portion of the roof system is assumed to be vertical walls (zones 1 and 4) and then the 3/12 pitch is considered to be the roof (zones 2 and 3?) or would it be more appropriate to look at the multiple pitches on the roof and determine the loads based upon (4) roof zones rather than just the normal two roof zones?
thanks.
check out our whitepaper library.
postframese - if you don't mind using an old approach to wind loading, i have a document on my website, "design of barns to withstand wind loads - 1938", that addresses gambrel buildings in detail. here is a link to the page:
worst case - consider the whole thing a wall...
thanks to both of you for your advice.
