control joints - concrete basement wall
hello great mentors,
i was wondering what is typical spacing for control joints for a concrete basement wall. the wall is basically a retaining wall that is restrained at the top so all of the tension is at the inner face. any thoughts?
i also want to say thanks on the replies from my tension chord bracing topic. really great help there.

i guess you mean the spacing of "construction control joint (ccj)" rather than control joint, which is purposely weakened in an effort to let crack to occur, thus reduces cracks in between. as you understand that "crack" (intentional or not) is highly undesirable for the basement wall, therefore some engineers prefer to specify ccj if the wall can not be completed by one pour. the spacing of ccj is mainly depending upon capacity of concreting and schedule. i think someone here can suggest good details and practical concerns.
only walls greater than 24 foot in dimension need consideration for construction joints or at temporary bulkhead locations for separate placements. a typical basement for a home can have none if all the forms are filled in the same day.
