beginner question: abnornal program termination
beginner question: abnornal program termination
hi all!
i'm new to the opendesign library. i have downloaded and installed everything. the sample applications i have tried all complie and run nicely.
so i decided to try something little of my own. i created a simple dialog based mfc application. at the push of a button i would like to do exactly the same as in the odcopyex sample. i have set up the project properly. i will compile and run. i get the resulting file and it opens without a problem in autocad. but in the end i get "abnornal program termination". i seems to me as if there a resources that are not released. but i am not sure.
could anyone please advise me on what to do next?
oh. i am running this in visual studio 6.
best regards
mikael
hi mikael,
which version of autocad are you running? autocad is quite picky about visual studio versions...
also, why don't you run arx from within autocad? i've been programming arx for almost 10 years - so i'm more comfortable with the arx names. i use a lot of typedefs:
typedef odgepoint2d acgepoint2d;
typedef odgepoint3d acgepoint3d;
typedef oddbobjectid acdbobjectid;
...
typedef oddbarc acdbarc;
typedef oddbcircle acdbcircle;
typedef oddbellipse acdbellipse;
...
as a result, i get code that compiles in both arx and dwgdirect.a few #ifdef-#else-#endif takes care of minor differences.
good luck!

mikael,
assuming you have "abnormal program termination" in your application do you call oduninitialize() before exit?
if yes, check also if where are some smart pointers to oddb objects at exiting.
smart pointers must be destroyed (go out of scope) or zeroed before calling oduninitialize().
else oddb objects gets destroyed at the moment of desroying smart pointers (after odunitialize())

hi!
the key was: smart pointers must be destroyed (go out of scope) or zeroed before calling oduninitialize().
i placed the initialization in the oninitdialog() method and called oduninitialize(); in the destructor. now everything is working perfectly.
thank you for your assistance.
best regards
mikael
