new to cosmos. model conrod help
good morning all, i race model planes, and we tune the engines to get the most out of them. i have made some conrods, that have failed, but rather than just beefing them up i thought i'd use works cosmos to see where they need improving. i have never used cosmos, just had a bit of a play with the cosmos express, but i don't think i'm putting the correct information in, i have restrained the bottom bore, and put a load on the top bore vertically, but this only seems to deform the top portion by stretching. could someone please give me some guidance or maybe point me to a tutorial that will get me started. thanks in advance, mark. tyan mobo 2xdual core opteron 2214 4gb ram quadro fx 3500 150gb raptor stripe raid xp pro x386 sp2 cosmosexpress is not sufficient for this task. try shot peening your conrods. i know others have done this, and has helped. i'm not sure but i think the failure occurred due to lack of oil, but i'd like to check it out and also learn a little about cosmos. what software would give me what i'm after, ansys? proe? tyan mobo 2xdual core opteron 2214 4gb ram quadro fx 3500 150gb raptor stripe raid xp pro x386 sp2 almost anything other than cosmos express...sorry, but i think the general concensus on cosmos express will be pretty poor in the fea world, but upgrade to a standard cosmos package and you should be fine. certainly ansys, abaqus, algor, amps, nenastran, roshaz and on and on could provide you with the insight you are looking for, but how much are you interested in spending or to what tools do you already have access? full version of cosmos would be a start. however, the expertise to analyze a part like this is not included on the dvd. if you're spending real money and want real answers, hire a real analyst to do this for you. quote (pieboy): i have never used cosmos, just had a bit of a play with the cosmos express... sounds like he is trying to use a full versioned program, just lacking the know how. i agree with the others, if you want a realistic analysis, you'll have to get someone that knows what they are doing. "art without engineering is dreaming; engineering without art is calculating." try glass bead peening for the rod and cryogenic thermal treatment for all the engine parts - after a short breakin period. beefing up does not help much, it increases inertia loads. can you fabricate titanium?
