uplift per asce 7-05

uplift per asce 7-05
i have a stick built roof system that is entirely supported by post and beam. i am using asce 7-05 to analyze uplift on the roof. there ends up being quite a large uplift, 13kips, on one of the posts due to multiple beams coming in at one point. can i take credit for the roof, timber beam, and column dead wieghts and subtract this from the asce 7-05 uplift loads? i don't find any explanation in asce. i see in 2003irc there is a note that their uplift values allready include a consideration for 10psf dead load. if i can't subtract these dead loads then i suppose all of this uplift needs to be resisted by a mass of concrete at the fndn? is there a way to tie the column to intermediate floor diaphrams for additional dead weight, i've never seen this done? 13,000# is a lot of concrete...
thanks guys,
check out our whitepaper library.
it is perfectly ok to subtract 0.6*dl from the uplift.

the uplift loads in asce7 do not account for any dead load. as daveatkins said, it is fine to consider 0.6*dl to reduce the uplift.
