residential floor load codes
the building codes are not very clear about minimum acceptablr floor loads including acceptable deflection design criteria. i am in the process of reviewing the massachusetts code, asce 7-05, residential code of new york state and the international building code 2006. i would like to compile and compare all acceptable minimum load criteria. has this question been posted on the web site if not how would i post it?
asce 07 table 4-1 has design live loads including residential occupancies.
2006 ibc table 1607.1 has design live loads including residential occupancies; table 1604.3 has deflection limits.
dead loads have to be accounted for based on what the construction is. asce 7 table c3-1 has a listing of proposed minimum dead load values.
can't help you with ny and ma, but it's probably similar.
for residential construction irc would be used (if adopted by the jurisdiction), not the ibc.
2006 irc, table r301.5 anf r301.6 has live loads; r301.7 has deflection criteria.
the irc typically applies to 1 and 2 family and some multifamily (r-3) occupancies, and the ibc and irc are mostly coordinated.

good point, don. from the subject line, i took it to mean single family. but there could certainly be other conditions as you noted.
