properties of cables
does anyone know where i can find e and a properties for typical cables? the information that i have only covers strength properties but this doesnt help in calculating end reaction for a catenary curve. i am looking at around 1/2" diameter overall for the cable and will specify whatever is readily available in galvanised. see "uss wire rope engineering handbook" on this page of my website: i believe we use 28,000ksi or 28,500 ksi for the e of p/s strand. my instructor explained that the coiling of the wire in a multi-strand rope causes the effective moe to drop. thanks sliderule that reference was exactly what i was looking for. dinosaur, thanks for the input, sliderules reference gives an effective moe for various cables. for 19 wire strand it gives 19000ksi. |
