mc-3 and mc-4 dimensions
mc-3 and mc-4 dimensions
would any of you have reference to the cross-sectional dimensions of these 2 channels, mc-3 and mc-4. ryerson still supplies these 2 sizes but does not give the dimensions. i am drawing them in solidworks but need the angle of the legs. thanks. find a job or post a job opening my steel book only goes to mc6. thats the smallest i can find. are you sure its not c4 and c3? do you mean mc3x7.1 (tw=0.312", bf=1.938") and mc4x13.8 (tw=0.500", bf=2.500")? they're in my ryerson catalog, but it doesn't list the flange thickness. my aisc 7th edition gives 3/8" for the average flange thickness of the mc3x7.1. "do you mean mc3x7.1 (tw=0.312", bf=1.938") and mc4x13.8 (tw=0.500", bf=2.500")? they're in my ryerson catalog, but it doesn't list the flange thickness. my aisc 7th edition gives 3/8" for the average flange thickness of the mc3x7.1" yes those are the shapes i am referring too. ryerson will still sell them but they will not provide the angles and radius for the legs. i believe they must no longer be supported by aisc or something because no where on the web are the referenced. maybe someone with an old bethelem steel book may have more information. acad and solidworks libraries only go down to mc6 as well. thanks! westiemployee, i have a 1978 edition of the bethlehem structural shapes catalog (no. 32777) mc3x7.1 design properties: a = 2.09, d = 3.00, bf= 1.938, tf =0.351, tw = 0.312, ixx = 2.73, sxx = 1.82, rx = 1.14, iyy = 0.712, syy = 0.561, rx = 0.669, eo = 0.730 detailing dimensions: d = 3, bf = 2, tf = 3/8, tw = 5/16, tw/2 = 1/8, a = 1 5//8, t = 1 3/4, k = 5/8, r = 0.190, grip = not specified, max flange fastener = not specified, usual flange gage g = not specified. two footnotes apply to this shape: these channels have a slope of 2.7 degrees. all other channels on these pages have a slope of 2 degrees. channels similar to mc3 except that flanges flare outward to 3 1/8" across the toe are also available. mc4x13.8 is not listed hope this helps. regards, chichuck westiemployee, aisc gives following properties: library: aisc13 type: mc designation = mc3x7.1 w = 7.1 a = 2.11 d = 3 bf = 1.94 tw = 0.312 tf = 0.351 cw = 0.813 kdes = 0.8125 kdet = 0.653 x = 0.574 e0 = 0.414 xp = 2.72 ix = 2.24 zx = 1.81 sx = 1.14 rx = 0.666 iy = 0.998 zy = 0.518 sy = 0.562 ry = 0.0928 j = 0.915 ro = 1.76 h = 0.516 ----------------- library: aisc13 type: mc designation = mc4x13.8 w = 13.8 a = 4.03 d = 4 bf = 2.5 tw = 0.5 tf = 0.5 cw = 1 kdes = 1 kdet = 0.849 x = 0.643 e0 = 0.508 xp = 8.85 ix = 5.53 zx = 4.43 sx = 1.48 rx = 2.13 iy = 2.4 zy = 1.29 sy = 0.727 ry = 0.373 j = 4.84 ro = 2.23 h = 0.55 westiemployee, a slight correction: a = 2.09, d = 3.00, bf= 1.938, tf =0.351, tw = 0.312, ixx = 2.73, sxx = 1.82, rx = 1.14, iyy = 0.712, syy = 0.561, rx = 0.669, eo = 0.730 should read: a = 2.09, d = 3.00, bf= 1.938, tf =0.351, tw = 0.312, ixx = 2.73, sxx = 1.82, rx = 1.14, iyy = 0.712, syy = 0.561, rx = 0.583, x = 0.669, eo = 0.730 i apologize for the error. seeing lokstr's post, gee, what do you do now? regards, chichuck |
