masonry veneer anchors
howdy, aci does not provide much in the way of design for stone veneer anchorage requirements. is there another standard that is useful in design for these? i am trying to determine anchorage spacing for a 4" split-faced limestone veneer anchored to cmu block wall with one-inch cavity (10-15' tall) using typical steel tie anchors that are grouted into the joints of the block and then the veneer. is there a rule of thumb for this? i have seen 16" o.c vertical and 32" o.c. horizontal to help with coarsing of the 8" block, but what stresses are of the most concern? thanks a lot. find a job or post a job opening check aci 530-02 chapter 6. i would design the ties for tension for negative wind pressure and compression for positive pressure. look at the ncma-tek manual. tek no. 64 provides a rational design. (at least, it used to, my copy is dated 1975.) the building code usually includes a required maximum area per tie for anchored veneer. check the ibc. |
