how is bondek/condek fixed to a brick structure
hi guys, i understand that bondek/condek is secured to a steel support beam by shear studs welded to the beam, which are then placed through holes in the condek, and cast into the concrete to create a composite structure. my question is, what if you want to place bondek/condeck on top of a double skinned external brick wall. how do we fix the condeck onto that? do we drill shear connectors into the brick? how to we ensure that the concrete slab and brick wall are connected somehow? or is condeck not meant to be supported by brick? any help would be appreciated. thanks -dan check out our whitepaper library. dan bondek condeck are attached using shear studs if composite action is required in teh steel beam. the shear studs are usually attached after the decking is laid by flash welding where supported on brick, slip joints are usually installed (refer to stramit and bluescope web sites for some details). where a structural conection to the masonry is required, this is usually achieved using reinforcement in the slab hope this helps regards brizstruct just to clarify; as brizstruct said; "bondek condeck are attached using shear studs if composite action is required". if composite action is not required the decking is normally puddle welded or shot fired to the supporting steel beam. |
