heavy timber truss connections
there seems to be a trend of many designers using rgid truss plates instead of pinned joints. the theory is that oversizing the holes in the steel by 1/16" allows enough rotation capacity to avoid splitting the members. the wood designers i learned from where all very strongly opposed to rigid truss plates. what is your opinion?
