crsi retaining wall
crsi retaining wall
has anyone worked through the retaining wall examples in the crsi concrete book. i am having trouble with the stem deflection calculation. i cannot make the units correct. any suggestions would be appreciated. do you have crsi design handbook 2002? if yes, check pages 14-8 and 14-9 as its all there. the typ. deflection limit is h/240. what are your soil and concrete parameters? yes thanks. but... i can not get the units to end up as inches. numerator is ft^5 times lb/ft^3, leaving ft^2*lb. denominator is questionable, but lb/in times in^3, leaving lb*in^2. i think the 30x10^6 has a unit of lb/in. numerator divided by denominator becomes unitless. the examples have a 1728 (which is 12^3) see page 14-17, which is changing feet into inches, but i cannot work the units out. on page 14-8 ie=0.32t^3 which must have the units already included and evaluated as typically i(e)ffective is in inches^4 not ^3 as shown. i have a retaining wall program that calculates the deflection so i never even checked for the units to correspond. nice thread. good luck. i think the fact that you are looking at a 1' width of wall may have something to do with it as well. thanks. i agree with broekie. |
