cast iron properties
hi, we are trying to check the axial load capacity of a cast iron pipe column from 1902. any input on where we can find the steel properties would be very helpful. we contacted aisc, but they did not have much idea.

the british have done a fair bit of work on cast iron properties.
have just what you need. go to my website homepage (link below) and download "carnegie pocket companion -1923". it is located in the "miscellaneous" section.
see page 247 for the allowable unit stresses per the 1917 new york building law.
