bridge crane loads
bridge crane loads
does anyone have any resource data that could provide me with an approximate design wheel load for: 1. 40 ton bridge crane spanning 100 ft. 2. 20 ton bridge crane spanning 100 ft. ? what you probably need is cmaa's publication no. 70: "specifications for top running bridge & gantry type multiple girder electric overhead traveling cranes". you can purchase it from their website for $50. i have a copy, but it's in a box somewhere at home. i've used it for design criteria for bridge crane support. i wonder if that document just provides specifications, or does it actually give approximate wheel loads for various types and spans of cranes? the bible for wheel loads and crane information like that amoung old timers is the "whiting crane book" last published in 1985. it is based on older cranes so the wheel loads are a pretty heavy as are the trolley and girder weights but it is always a good place to start. new cranes are lighter. my best guess would be about 20% lighter on the trolley and girder. for 40 ton bridge crane, 100 ft span, 2 wheels/endtruck wheel load 85,200 lb crane weight 145000 lb trolley weight 31,700 lb min approach distance 4 ft 9 in for 20 ton bridge crane, 100 ft span 2 wheels/endtruck wheel load 48,300 lb crane weight 93,400 lb trolley weight 10,600 lb min approach distance 3 ft if your min approach is different or you want to calculate the wheel loads for reduced crane and trolley weights just divide the crane weight evenly all wheels, put the lifted load and trolley at minimum approach and sum the moments. it is somewhat crude but gets fairly close estimates. thanks rockengineer. jae: i have a pretty good spread sheet published by the aisc for crane beam desing... i don't have your email address at the office, but will send it this evening. dik jae / dik - could that speadsheet be based on this excel program, "crane beam v1.1", from aisc? dik, thanks - but i'm not designing the crane runway beam, only a preliminary foundation design at this point. sre: yup... dik for larger crane loads and spans, i have a mannesmann demag catalogue in my office. they have a website ( |
