i want to clear something in my mind. we do mostly low seismic projects in the midwest. if we have sdc a-c are we required to use the cd and the overstrength factor in designing our bracing connections for steel framed buildings? i am reveiwing the seismic revisions and it states sdc d or higher are subject to the requirements

no, if you are in sdc c or lower, then you the aisc seismic specs do not apply. you can use an r of 3 and design it just like a regular building with non-seismic connections.
just pray that the new madrid fault is no larger than they think...
