drawing size

drawing size
we pdf our drawings with adobe. until recently this process has been working fine. recently our drawings size (data - mb) is getting too large. one of the pdf's was 8ish mb.
we tried nicepdf but this does not compress enough.
any suggestions?
how are you making your pdf's? what is the source application?
check to see if your pdf's are raster (pixels) or vector. do this by zooming in on a corner where lines meet. if the lines keep resolution, then you are getting vector. if they get blurry, you have raster.
vector-formatted pdf's will be smaller.
honesty may be the best policy, but insanity is a better defense.
how big are the drawings? we created some work instructions with our cad that had 15 - 20 views of a medium-large assembly. not only was the drawing file sluggish but even when we created the pdf it was very big and rather slow.
kenat, probably the least qualified checker you'll ever meet...
source is solidedge 20
using adobe acrobat 5.0
i've suggested we try acrobat 8.0
>> options i get to select - although nothing seems to make a difference
compress text and line art, down sample images, asccii format
color/greyscale images - jpeg med is what i am using
monochrome images - ccitt group 4 is what i am using
your .dwg file is likely large also. purge the drawing, then block, wblock the drawing. open the wblock and save it as the original. it should greatly decrease the drawing size.
heatex, .dwg isn't native solid edge, those commands don't sound familiar from se.
ryandis, i too use solid edge, you may want to aske this question in the solid edge forum
