what is the difference between the entity color and colorind
what is the difference between the entity color and colorindex methods?
from thought, i am assuming the colorindex returns the standard autocad colour index values as is stored in a dxf file - like 1 for red etc.
but what about the color method? since that returns a 32bit integer, am i to assume it is a actual rgb value of some kind? i understand that autocad 2004 supports true colour, so it would seem logical that this would be the case.
but how would one kknow when to use the colorindex value or the color property ??
at the moment i am using the colorindex one because we have no versions over 2002 and thus all colours are within the standard autocad colour palette.

colorindex() will always return the index (as it was before 2004). if entity has true color set colorindex() will return index for the nearest color from autocad palette.
color() method returns odcmcolor. this class has colormethod() function which answers if color is specified by index or by rgb.

thanks for the clarification sergey. i also found out a bit from searching the chm file and found that the class has methods like - isaci or something.
however, for my program, i am getting the colour from the layer table record and that object only holds a color and colorindex method which both return a 16 or 32 bit integer. neither seem to return a colour class as you mentioned, although i see it documented for the entity class etc.
hopefully, for now, it is good enough to just use the colorindex method until such a time that needed true colour values becomes an issue.

i was looking in the document help file and it says a different return type....
do you mean dwgdirect.chm? what version do you use?

1.09 as supplied in latest download....
me being a prat - it is documented right - must have looked somewhere else
but will stick with colorindex return value for now...
