smart pointer problem
smart pointer problem hi, creating my first mfc application using directdwg i got this problem: i have a class that contains the database: code: class cdwglayer : public clayer // my base class , public exsystemservices , public exhostappservices i'm trying to create it in another class and to add a pointer to it in a list. i tried in this way: code: odsmartptr< cdwglayer > player = odrxobjectimpl<cdwglayer>::createobject(); /* various elaborations */ inwspace->addlayer( player.get() ); the problem is this compiling error: e:\devel\geowerks\supportlib\directdwg\include\sma rtptr.h(336): error c2594: 'static_cast' : ambiguous conversions from 'odrxobject *' to 'cdwglayer *' what's wrong in my code? thank you in advance, myzhar ============== ing. walter lucetti geomind srl pisa - italy ============== myzhar # 7th february 2006, 10:00 am registered user join date: sep 2003 location: russia posts: 1,828 you cannot create smart-pointer on the object doubly inherited from odrxobject. (the same way you would have difficulties, inheriting from cobject twice) perhaps it's not a good idea, to inherit database object from services. hostappservices are application abstraction, they should be unique. the same are systemservices, that abstract low level system routines. vladimir vkalinin # 7th february 2006, 10:06 am registered user join date: feb 2006 location: pisa posts: 69 i supposed the problem was this. how do i create the database then? the code code: // create a custom hostappservices object. odrxobjectimpl<exhostappservices> svcs; odinitialize(&svcs); // dwgdirect initialization oddbdatabaseptr pdb; // a smart pointer to a database // create a database and load the drawing into it. pdb = svcs.readfile("drawing1.dwg"); // do something with the database. pdb.release(); // delete the database before odunitialize() is called. oduninitialize(); // dwgdirect termination in documentation file is wrong odinitialize(&svcs); needs exsystemservices, not exhostappservices...... which is then the right way to create a database and load the dwg file? thank you, walter myzhar ============== ing. walter lucetti geomind srl pisa - italy ============== myzhar # 7th february 2006, 10:16 am registered user join date: sep 2003 location: russia posts: 1,828 if your cdwglayer represents application (at the module level), then of course you should inherit it from both interaces. the simplest way to instantiate the class inherited from 2 odrxobjects is to use odstaticrxobject<> as demonstrated in samples. vladimir vkalinin # 7th february 2006, 10:31 am registered user join date: sep 2003 location: russia posts: 1,828 well, of course you may separate systemservices and hostappservices. in that case you should have to initialize dd with systemservices, and create database with hostappservices. but that seems not to be practical. vladimir vkalinin # 8th february 2006, 12:35 am registered user join date: feb 2006 location: pisa posts: 69 i think i need to separate them. my dwgdirect is not the application, but one "drawing layer" of few other kind of "drawing layer". i'll try to make what you subjested me... thank you, myzhar ============== ing. walter lucetti geomind srl pisa - italy ============== myzhar # 8th february 2006, 02:20 am registered user join date: feb 2006 location: pisa posts: 69 perfect, separating them i'm able to load the dwg correctly now the problem is the rendering... but this is another thread thank you walter myzhar ============== ing. walter lucetti geomind srl pisa - italy ============== myzhar none ? | ? thread tools display modes linear mode search this thread rate this thread excellent good average bad terrible posting rules you may post new threads you may post replies you may post attachments you may edit your posts is on are on code is off html code is off forum jump user control panel private messages subscriptions who's online search forums forums home general topics news questions and remarks business issues industry commentary general software issues documentation issues future directions dwg libraries dwgdirect.net dwgdirect, c++ version dwgdirectx, activex version adtdirect/c3ddirect opendwg toolkit/viewkit dgn libraries dgndirect, c++ version (2.x+) dgndirect libraries (legacy 0.99xx) all times are gmt -7. the time now is 11:35 pmfff">. - - - copyright ?2000 - 2009, jelsoft enterprises ltd. copyright 1998-2008 open design alliance inc. you cannot create smart-pointer on the object doubly inherited from odrxobject.
