ansi weldless eyenuts & liftin
hi folks,
have a small problem at work.  the mechanics use weldless eyenuts normally used for pipe hangers as rigging eyenuts as well.  i told them that they are more than likely made to different standards and their uses should not be mixed up.  they only stock weldless eyenuts in their stores right now.
i have seen the eyenuts in a crosby rigging catalog, but they do not quote a standard.  i have also seen eyenuts in a pipe hanger supply catalog, again not quoting any standards.
the main physical difference that i know is that the bottom of a rigging eyenut has a larger land machined on the bottom of it.
anyone know where the codes or standards are for these ?
regards
doug

dugal,
weldless eyenuts are made to mss and federal codes and standards...
i believe the ones you refer to are made to mss-sp-69...
the components have a break strength of a couple of times the rated load (see mss-sp69 for more info)
