what is the correct designator for calling out iso fasteners
i know ansi does not have any standard for calling out fasteners, but does iso have it and if so does it go like this
[iso number][material] [thread and length]
frank
sure there is an ansi standard.
asme y14.6-2001, see pg6 for proper thread callouts. this is referenced by asme y14.5m-1994 so if you have referenced y14.5 on your drawing you do not need to reference y14.6.

din is more commonly used in the uk, despite i believe being a german standard.
this might be a starting point for what you are looking for.
i believe the op is talking about fasteners, not threads as such.
asme y14.100 does give guidelines for part naming.
kenat, probably the least qualified checker you'll ever meet...
iso 8991 designation system for fasteners provides guidance on this issue.
items are included in the following order (some items are used only if necessary)
denomination (name of product)
standard
thread size
further features (e.g. pitch)
nominal length
thread length
type of product
property class
product grade
type of drive
surface protection
example:
hexagon head bolt iso 4014 - m12 x 80 - 8.8

cory
what industry?  in the military/defense industry we call out the mil spec: for example, a ms9555-02 is a screw, machine-double hexagon extended washer head, corrosion & heat resistant steel, .164-36 unjf-3a x .250.
