weldment calculator
hi everbody,
i have been doing some pricing lately for my weldments, and i got really bored trying to figure out how many full lenghts of tubing i will need for one assembly.
i was wondering does anybody have macro that would calculate this and tell you that you need this many lengths of a certan size tubing and this many of the other kind ect...? any ideas or help on this will be greatly appreciated.

can you not just save the cutlist to excel then do a sort and use excel to add them up. this is what we do here and that way i can combine multiple weldments to one excel file and add them all up at once.

if you have 2008 insert your weldment part into an assembaly. then insert that assembaly into a drawing and place a bom. then right click on the part in the bom were the weldment is listed and click dissolve weldment. it will list the total leangth of each type of steel profile.
hi guys,
thanks for your replies.
ryan i did not know you could do that, it is pretty cool. but say that i have a weldment that is going take a lot more than one length it at the end of each length it is going to use the drop off, it will think that i am going to use the drop off and just take the rest of the part from the next length and well that is not the case obviosly but maybe you have a work around this. ?
lorne i am not quite sure what you mean would what you are sayiong do the same thing as what ryan said just using exel?.

i do not have a workaround for this. we just use this to get an approxamte amount of steel used. mayby someone eles has a better idea.
i downloaded a sample program a couple of years ago that would allow you to enter the various lengths of the same material. the program would then calculate your most efficient cutting scenario to utilize all of the drops.
it would do this for bar or sheet. unfortunately, it was at a previous employer and i can't remember the name of it.

we do all of our work orders and quoteing through a program called job boss. we enter in the matterial used in job boss and create our quotes through that.
ryan,
maybe i'll have to check into something like that to. thanks it is interesting to know what other people use for stuff like that.
